Is Makara Bar good for solo travelers?

Yes. If you're traveling alone, Makara is a great spot to chat with friendly bar staff, meet fellow travelers and locals, or enjoy a quiet drink at the bar.

Does Makara Bar's staff speak English?

Yes. Makara's bartenders and servers have solid English skills and are native Vietnamese speakers, so feel free to converse with them in English or Vietnamese, as you prefer.

Is Makara a speakeasy bar?

Makara is a hidden bar in plain sight, housed within a century-old Indochine house in the heart of Dà Nāng, with minimal signage. The bar has an intimate vibe -- ideal for private conversations and discovering unique drinks. It's Vietnam's first and only Tiki Speakeasy.

Does Makara Bar serve unique Vietnamese cocktails?

Yes. Many of our cocktails are inspired by classic Western tiki drinks, but we use local fruits, spices, and spirits to make them uniquely Vietnamese. Original TikiViet cocktails are served only at Makara.

Does Makara Bar serve classic cocktails?

Makara specializes in sophisticated tiki and tropical drinks, but our bartenders can make most classic cocktails to your liking -- even if they're not on the menu. So, if you prefer a simple Gin & Tonic, Negroni or Martini, just let us know, and we'll do our best to make it your way.

What does it mean to say that Makara is a tiki bar?

As a tiki bar, Makara specializes in sophisticated tropical cocktails, with fresh fruits, complex spices, and other unusual flavors. It has an immersive atmosphere with elaborate decor, including bamboo and rattan furniture, ornate wood carvings, and unique ceramic mugs. Makara is the world’s first truly Vietnamese tiki bar, in that the concept is shaped by local history and culture at every level. It’s the Original TikiViet.

What are Makara Bar's most popular drinks?

The Xombi Zombie, Naughty Monkey, Turtle Tower, and Ms. Mai's Mai-Tai are four of our most popular cocktails. Many couples share the Bat Ly Son flaming volcano bowl. The Lotus in the Storm is our most ordered mocktail.

Does Makara Bar offer nonalcoholic drinks?

Yes! We have Da Nang's largest selection of sophisticated and delicious hand-crafted mocktails, and other non-alcoholic options.

Is Makara Bar open late?

Makara is open until 2 am on Friday and Saturday, and until 1 am every other day. The bar can stay open later to accommodate larger groups as needed. Discover "Makara after Midnight," with some special offers for our late night guests. 

Is Makara a good stop for bar hopping?

Yes, especially if you like cocktail bars. Makara is located on Nguyen Chi Thanh street in central Dà Nāng. This is the heart of the city's cocktail district, and there are several other quality bars within easy walking distance. Our staff would be pleased to recommend other good venues to visit.

Are Makara Bar's drinks expensive?

Makara's drinks occasionally cost more than at some other cocktail bars, but they always provide an excellent value for customers -- the best possible quality for the price. We use only fresh juices squeezed daily, and many premium and rare spirits. Also, most of our drinks have larger alcohol pours (45, 60, or 80ml) than many of our competitors. We have no hidden "well" of budget/low quality bottles below the bar. All the spirits in our cocktails are proudly displayed on our bar shelves.

Do you need to make an advance reservation at Makara Bar?

No. But, space is limited at Makara, so reservations are recommended -- especially for weekends and holidays. Private rooms can be reserved with advance notice.

Does Makara Bar serve food?

Makara has a small selection of delicious bar bites, including crispy pork skins, spiced pumpkin dip, and beef brisket sliders. For groups reserving private rooms, we can help arrange outside catering by advance request. 

Is Makara an art bar?

Makara has a world-class collection of Vietnamese tribal artwork and antique ceramics, along with custom bamboo, rattan, and wood decor and furnishings created by some of the country's finest artisans. Subject to staff availability, tours of the bar are available by request. 

Does Makara Bar allow photo shoots and videography?

Yes, Makara is happy to work with influencers and professional photographers and videographers. By appointment, we can arrange to open the bar early to grant full and unfettered access.

Is Makara Bar LGBTQ+ friendly?

Absolutely. Makara is not a gay bar, but we welcome everyone and pride ourselves on being an inclusive, safe space.

Can I host a private event at Makara Bar?

Yes. Makara offers private spaces for events of up to 20 people, with flexible room configurations. Custom decorations and catering can be arranged. Message to discuss details.

Is Makara a romantic bar?

Makara is a great date spot and often preferred by couples. It's an excellent choice for special occasions such as Valentine's Day or anniversaries. Private booth or lounge seating is available by reservation.

Is Makara a smoke free bar?

Yes. Smoking is not permitted inside Makara Bar, to ensure the health and safety of our guests and staff. This applies to cigarettes and cigars, and also to vapes, which are now illegal in Vietnam. There is ample sheltered space in front of the bar for customers who wish to smoke outside.
